It will always be inevitable that every year, as kitten season approaches, cat rescues across the country will be inundated with pregnant mum-cats, abandoned kittens and entire cat families which, is just the case for Poppys Place in Colchester this year.
Even as a small and independent rescue, Poppys Place have already seen the birth of 3 litters, hand reared 8 kittens from only days old and have seen over 10 cat families come through their doors. Their most recent arrivals being Opal and Luna (2 beautiful pure white sisters), Annie and Tyson (a bonded mother and son looking for a home together) and Dory, with her four 7 week old kittens. And these numbers don’t even mention all the single and paired adult cats looking for homes too.
Topaz is one of the Poppy-mums who is desperately looking for a home. She has been at the rescue for some time now and is waiting patiently for her happy ending. She is just a few years old and was tossed aside by her owners after giving birth to her 3 beautiful kittens on a piece of newspaper on the floor in their home. Her kittens are now off to their forever homes leaving this girl waiting for hers. She has an incredible personality and nothing has knocked her down. She longs for a beautiful garden to relax in and some company in the evenings. Topaz is just one mum amongst the cats here at Poppys – Sparrow, Belle, Annie, Dory and Lexi are also looking for homes too.
Amongst the mums are the male cats of Poppys, including Tiger, a 10 year old tabby and white boy who had been left in his own home alone, until their owners moved back 3 years later and still didn’t want him. Suffering from serious neglect, Tiger has all but his canine teeth removed and needed 4 if not 5 meals a day to regain his strength. And Bert, a large black male who has been straying for so long, abscesses covered his face and paw. He has now recovered and is the most cuddliest of cats
Poppys Place work hard to ensure that every cat is vaccinated, flea and worm treated, micro-chipped, neutered (if at the correct weight or are part of a strict neutering contract if they are kittens), are insured for free for 4 weeks after the adoption and come with rescue back-up for life. With over 20 cats and kittens in their care and mums waiting to give birth, Poppys Place are looking for the very best of homes for their guests.
